TEAM SIZE:
There are 6 players maximum on the court at one time. There must be at least 3 females on the court. There is no limit on the number of women that can play at one time. EXCEPTION: You must start the game with the minimum of four players and fill in with "ghost players." Playing with the minimum requires that no more than 2 men are on the court.
GHOST PLAYER:
Teams that are short players must designate a spot in their serving rotation for a “ghost player.” The space(s) is where the other player would play in the rotation if he/she were present. When the “ghost player” rotates to the serving position, the team will automatically lose their serve. If a team is 2 players short, they would play with two “ghost players.” Players arriving late may automatically take over the "ghost player's" position at any time during the progress of the game.
ROSTER:
There is no maximum number of players allowed on your roster. Players will not be allowed to participate without signing the OCSSC waiver/roster. After the final tee shirt order date, there is only one way to add to your roster. Teams must DROP a player(s) before they can add a player(s), up to the 3rd week. The additional player must obtain the tee shirt from the dropped player in order to play. Rosters are frozen after last game of the 3rd week. Additional roster sheets will be available for adding players that were not at the first game.
PLAYER RESTRICTIONS:
All players in the OCSSC must be 20 years old when the season starts. Teams will forfeit all games if this rule has been broken. OCSSC will have the right to request ID from any player throughout the regular and/or play-off season.
PLAYER PARTICIPATION:
Players can only play on one team. Player(s) that break this rule will cause their team(s) to forfeit all games that were participated in. (Forfeit fine will also be assessed).
GAME TIME:
All games must start on time, no exceptions.
FORFEITS:
If a team does not have the minimum number of players by game time, they must still start the game. If the minimum number of players does not show up 10 minutes after game time, a forfeit will be called.
FORFEIT FINES:
If a team does not have the minimum number of players by game time, a $50 forfeit fine will be assessed. Teams that receive a forfeit fine must use it the following week or lose it. (No, carry over). If a team e-mails the OCSSC by 5pm of the preceding day, no fine will be assessed. This will allow the opposing coach to inform his team of the impending forfeit. All fines must be paid before your next scheduled game. Teams not paying the above fines the following week will have 2 points taken off their win total. After the 2nd week the fine doubles, 3rd week the team can be removed from the league.
GAME UNIFORMS:
OCSSC tee shirts/shorts must stay in the original color ordered. Illegal changes include: tie-dyeing, dying to make the shirts another color, bleaching, etc. No logo, patch, website address, company name, phone number, etc can be added to a OCSSC tee shirt. Additions that are allowed: American flag patch or print, player’s name/number must be minimal in size and may not be offensive in nature or cover the OCSSC or Sponsor logo. Teams that break this rule will be forced to purchase new OCSSC shirts @ $15 per shirt and teams will forfeit all games until the balance is paid on the purchase of new shirts.
GAME EQUIPMENT:
The OCSSC will supply all for each field.
SCORE KEEPING:
The game score will announced by the server prior to each serve. Failure to do so & have it accepted by the opposing team will result in loss of service.
SPORTSMANSHIP:
Sportsmanship: “Conduct and attitude considered as befitting participants in sports, especially fair play, courtesy, striving spirit, and grace in losing.” Any OCSSC members that do not conduct themselves (on or off the field) in a manner other then described above can/will be removed from the league. If a staff member believes a player should be removed, a meeting between me, the coaches involved & the staff member will occur to discuss removal. If player(s) or team(s) are involved in a fight, they will be banned from the OCSSC for life.
COACH RESPONSIBILITIES:
Please take your team back to our sponsor bar for the SOCIAL part of the OCSSC. Keep reminding your players that this is a very SOCIAL league and unsportsmanlike conduct will ensure them a seat on the bench or a view from the outside looking in.
VOLLEYBALL RULES:
START OF GAME:
The home team will be listed first on the schedule and serves the first game of the match in the court to the north side. The first service of the first set, as well as the deciding set (3rd set) will be executed by the home team. Teams will rotate after the completion of each game. Each match will consist of the best of three games to 15 points. Play continues until a two-point advantage is reached or until a team scores 17 points with a one point advantage. The team that wins two games first shall be declared the winner. Teams may play a 3rd consolation game if the winner has already been declared.
GAME CLOCK:
The OCSSC official holds the official game clock. A 2-minute warning whistle will sound before the start of each game for all 6 nets. All 6 nets will start on the next whistle after the 2-minute warning. Use the 2-minute warning to set up and have the home team's server in possession of the ball. The clock will run for 45 minutes and a whistle will sound for the start of rally time (if needed). The clock will not wait for any net whose teams are not ready for play.
RALLY GAME:
If any game starts/in progress 15 minutes before the allotted hour is over, a "rally" game will begin. If teams are in the 2nd game when this occurs, that game and the deciding game (if needed) will be a "rally" game. In the "rally" game, points will be awarded on both the service and service receive side (Ex. Server hits ball into the net, point goes to the opposite team/loss of serve. On a volley, your team hits a ball o.b. point is awarded to opposing team.) If the final whistle sounds during a "rally", the team with the most points at this time will be given the game.
TIME OUTS:
Each team is allowed one (one-minute) time-out per game except for rally games. No carryovers.
GENDER RULE:
A woman must hit the ball before it is returned over the net, unless the ball goes over on the first hit. A gender fault will occur (side out) if this does not happen.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
After each side out, players must rotate from the front-right position to the back-right position to serve. Substitutions can ONLY be made at this point in the rotation. The substitute must go to the back-right position to serve taking the front right player's spot in the rotation. All substituting players/equipment must be positioned behind the end line. No players/equipment will be allowed on the sidelines or between any court.
SUBSTITUTION PENALTY:
If a team illegally substitutes a player (not replaced from the right front position), that team will lose their serve immediately and 5 points will be deducted from their score. All players must relocate to their original position.
BALL IN PLAY:
The ball is in play from the moment of the hit of the service authorized by the referee. Points earned on a service made before the referee's "ready for play signal" will not count. Server has 10 seconds to serve the ball after the “ready for play signal.” Teams will lose serve if player holds balls later then 10 seconds.
BALL OUT OF PLAY:
The ball is out of play at the moment of the fault, which is called by the ref. In the absence of a fault, at the moment of the call.

TEAM HITS:
The team is entitled to a maximum of three hits (in addition to blocking) for returning the ball. If more are used, the team commits the fault of "four hits". The hits of the team include not only intentional hits, but also unintentional hits. A player may not hit the ball two times consecutively. The ball may touch any part of the body. The ball must be hit, not caught and/or thrown. The ball may touch various parts of the body only if the contact take place simultaneously.

. No receiving player may leave his or her feet to block a serve.
. The server must not touch the end line or a "foot" fault will be called.

. A block contact is not counted as a team hit, and a team is entitled to three hits to return the ball.
. The first hit after the block may be executed by any player, including the one who blocked the ball.
. No player’s arm/body may break the plane of the net while blocking. (SIDE OUT)
